A brushless A.C. dynamo-electric machine, not shown, e.g. motor, includes a field-winding supply arrangement comprising two separate alternators whose stator windings P 1 , P 2 are connected in mutually reverse phase to A.C. supply terminals RYB and whose rotor windings S 1 , S 2 are connected through serially arranged rectifier, e.g. silicon networks R 1 . . . R 6 to terminals of the machine field winding MF, the rotor windings and networks being mounted to rotate with the machine shaft. The alternators are of construction similar to a conventional wound-rotor induction motor, and the arrangement seeks to provide constant. full rotor field flux in a synchronous motor at all speeds in either direction of rotation, particularly near standstill conditions.
