Abstract

1,099,700. Lubricating. MIRRLEES (ENGINEERING) Ltd. March 30, 1965 [Dec. 30, 1963], No. 51111/63. Heading F2A. A closed force-feed lubrication system supplying a device, e.g. a marine diesel engine, with lubricant, comprises power means 3A driving a pump 2A through a clutch 5A and a pump 1A, both pumps being connected to discharge line 10, pump 1A operating alone when the engine starts up, and both pumps operating during running conditions. The delivery rate of pump 1A pumping cold lubricant is less than the combined rate of both pumps 1A, 10 pumping hot lubricant, whilst the power required in each ease is approximately equal. The pumps are driven by opposite ends of the rotor of electric motor 3A. In case of failure of pump set A, a duplicate set B is provided. Clutch 5A is controlled manually or by a temperature or motor-current sensitive element. Pump 1A may be disconnected from motor 1A by coupling 4A.
