Abstract
1,099,631. Determining rotational speed of a shaft, electrically. GOLAY, BUCHEL & CIE. Feb. 1, 1965 [Feb. 5, 1964], No. 4365/65. Heading G1N. An impulse generator, responsive to the rotational speed of a body comprises a resonance circuit from which an output voltage is derived and relative cyclic movement between a magnetized body and the coil of the resonance circuit produces a phase shift in the output voltage in dependence upon the relative speed. The resonance circuit comprises a capacitor 3 and a coil 2 on a ferrite core, and is energized from a fixed frequency source. The magnetized body is a permanent magnet sector 8 of a non-magnetic disc 7 supported in a ferromagnetic housing 9 rotatable about the disc axis. When the circuit is in resonance, in the absence of the influence of the field from the magnet 8, a transistor 5 conducts and a signal is available in a line 6. When the magnet 8 is in the vicinity of the core 1 a voltage is induced in the coil by relative movement between the magnet and coil. This produces the phase shift in the output voltage from coil 2 and the transistor 5 will not conduct. It is stated that the generator may be used to produce phase shift in voltage ignition pulses depending upon the rotational speed of an internal combustion engine.
