Abstract
109,959. Newbigin, H. T. June 27,1917. Cylindrical journal bearings; spring supports.- In order to distribute the load and to damp vibrations in a journal bearing provided with pivoted pressure blocks, each block has a spring support consisting of a resilient steel plate F resting by its edges in a recess in the back of the block C<1> and bearing against the rounded end of an adjusting- screw G. The plates may be rounded on one face or saucer-shaped, and may rest against similar plates supported in the casing in place of the screws G. The blocks are guided by flanges L<1> in the casing to prevent rotation about axes radial to the shaft, and rotation around the shaft is prevented by projections I. A casing or ring containing the blocks may have a spherical seating in an outer casing so as to obtain a swivelling action in the bearing as a whole.
