12,710. Hindle, A. H. Sept. 4. Ball and roller bearings.-A ball or like thrust bearing for a vertical or horizontal shaft is free to rock on a spherical surface or an intermediate part 6, Fig. 2, which can itself rock on a fixed spherical seat 2. The centres of curvature of the spherical surfaces are not coincident. In a modification, the intermediate part 12, Fig. 4, is extended to form a housing enclosing a double thrust bearing, and is supported by two concentric fixed spherical seats 13, 14. With this arrangement, the thrust bearing is not impaired if the shaft 1 sinks in its journal bearing 10.
