Abstract

1.098,801. Gripper shuttle looms. MASCHINENFABRIK - CARL ZANGS A.G. May 24, 1965 [Jan. 22, 1965], No. 21822/65. Heading D1E. Shuttlerace; beat-up motion. A stationary shuttle race for a gripper shuttle consists of thin elements 11, Fig. 2, having passages 93 for compressed air which blows the weft through gaps 9 towards the fell so that it passes over and comes in front of a beat-up comb 22 operating along a path A. A second comb B operates along a path B, such that one or other comb always penetrates the warp sheets to maintain the spacing of the threads. Weft supply; shuttle; picking. The shuttles, Fig. 3, have a cylindrical body into which the end of the weft thread is blown by a nozzle 43, Fig. 5, which momentarily lifts a spring-loaded ball 42 off its seat to enable a short length of thread' to pass it. The shuttle is propelled by a picker 76 of U-section operating astride the nozzle 43. Air flow is maintained continuously in the nozzle 43 to help the shuttle to draw weft from the supply bobbin 44'. When the shuttle reaches the opposite side of the loom, it is received in a rotary shuttle box similar to the box 56 from which it was picked. The shuttle boxes turn so that the shuttle is moved forward towards the fell, the weft at the picking side of the loom being similarly moved forward by a clamping and cutting device 70 turning with the box 56, and being then cut. The free end is drawn back to the mouth of the nozzle 43 by a take-up device 45, a clamp 51 having been closed to prevent further withdrawal of weft from the bobbin 44' when the shuttle completed its travel. As successive turns of the shuttle boxes bring empty shuttles to the bottom, they are returned to the picking side of the loom by an endless chain (not shown) having vertical fingers which push the shuttles along a slotted tube 89, Fig. 2.
