Abstract

1,098,286. Parachutes. G.Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. Oct. 21, 1966 [Nov. 10, 1965], No. 47613/65. Heading B7G. A parachute comprises a main canopy 11 and at least one additional canopy 14 comprising four separate panels 15 ... 18 connected to the main canopy, as at 19 ... 21, so that the main canopy is held in a reefed condition from which it can be released. The additional canopy may be expanded to unreef the main canopy 11 by either releasing tucks (46, 47) in the panels 15 ... 18, Fig. 6 (not shown), or by releasing an attachment holding the apices of the four panels together. This attachment may comprise a cord 35 passing through loops 31 ... 34 on the panels 15, 16, 17, 18; the ends 36, 37 of the cord being connected by another cord 38 which may be severed by a cutter 39 in response to either a manual, a time delay or a pressure signal. The main canopy 11 may be unreefed in stages either by more than one cutter 39, each releasing a bight of the cord 35, or by fitting more than one cord 35, (40), Fig. 5 (not shown), or by having more than one additional canopy 14, (48, 49) Fig 7 (not shown).
