Abstract

1,008,230. Deploying parachutes. PIONEER PARACHUTE CO. Inc. Sept. 29, 1964. No. 39701/64. Heading B7G. Parachutes arranged in a cluster each have a canopy and suspension lines, and at least one of the parachutes has air deflecting means located within and adjacent its skirt during initial opening of the parachute. As described, each parachute has deflecting means formed by a parachute 18 with a diameter 10-20% of the associated canopy diameter. The parachutes 18 are each held in place, substantially in the plane of the main canopy opening, by a suspension line 20, and by a line 24 leading to the vented main canopy peak 22 and a pilot parachute 28. The main canopies may all be the same size, or one of the may be smaller and stronger, and arranged to open sooner than the others.
