Abstract

1,098,079. Bow-making apparatus. UNITEDCARR Inc. March 4, 1966 [March 4, 1965], No. 9599/66. Heading B6G. Apparatus for making bows comprises a stationary housing, a ribbon holding and transporting carriage mounted on the housing for linear, reciprocating travel with respect to the housing between two points, means at the first of said points for feeding a piece of ribbon to the carriage, the housing and carriage having co-operating means operable during the movement of the carriage from the first position to the second position to fold the opposite ends of the ribbon under the central section of the ribbon, means at the second position for affixing the central portion of the ribbon to adjacent points of the folded under ends and thereby forming a bow, which is removed from the apparatus, means operable during travel of the carriage from the first to the second stop position to cause another piece of ribbon to be fed to the carriage. The apparatus may include a first control means comprising a lever actuating a cutter in the ribbon feeding means, means to release the carriage from the first position, a switch for electrically actuated means for moving the carriage towards the second position and, an actuating lever for initiating movement of the lever for actuating the cutter, for operating the release means and for operating the switch. A second control means may be provided comprising means for the operator to initiate operation of the means for affixing the segments of the ribbon to each other, means operable by said affixing means to initiate the movement of the carriage from the second position to the first position. The carriage may include spaced fingers for receiving on the upper surfaces thereof a piece of ribbon, the central portion of the ribbon being disposed on the fingers, and fingers operable on the carriage to engage the ribbon and hold it down, the carriage also including means for receiving the ribbon and attaching it and holding it to the carriage fingers during the return from the second position to the first position. An embodiment of the invention is described and illustrated in detail.
