Abstract
1,097,831. Interconnecting arrays of pins. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Jan. 6, 1965 [Jan. 30, 1964], No. 657/65. Heading H2E. Interconnections between pins 20, Fig. 1, projecting from a connector block 18 into which computer modules 14 are plugged, are made by printed circuit boards 22 having holes 30, Fig. 2, for the pins, some of which are surrounded by conductive areas 28 interconnected by lines 40 and others of which are surrounded by conductive bands 32 which surround, but are insulated from the areas 28, 40 for shielding purposes. There may be many more holes than pins. The holes may be separated from the conductive areas by small rings 36 and where connections are to be made to the pins, these rings may be punched out and replaced by metal rings 38, which may be soldered to the pins. Alternatively, the conductive areas may extend to the holes and where no connections are to be made, the holes may be enlarged and insulating rings inserted. The boards may be mounted on the pins in different angular positions and may have the connecting lines 40 running at different angles, Figs. 3-11 (not shown), so that by using a combination of different boards, cross connections may be made in a number of different directions. Boards, e.g. Fig. 13 (not shown), may be designed for pin lattices which are not square. The boards may be separated by insulating spacers and the pins, instead of being secured to the connector block, may mate with sockets in the block. Wire connections may be made to the ends of the pins.
