Abstract
1,097,427. Control of A.C. motors. T. KAWABE. April 5, 1965, No. 14309/65. Heading H2J. A starter for an A.C. motor comprises a laminated core having a primary winding in circuit with the motor, and a secondary winding whose ampere-turns are adapted to balance those of the primary winding. Initially, the secondary winding is open-circuited so that t he reactance of the primary winding reduces the motor current. At the end of the starting period, the secondary circuit is closed, whereby the impedance of the primary winding is reduced to a low value. The secondary circuit may comprise a variable impedance. A relay for closing the secondary circuit may be controlled by local or remote push-buttons associated with signal lamps, or time-control of the relay may be provided. A part of the primary winding may be removed at the end of the starting period, the remaining portion cooperating with the secondary winding. The primary and secondary windings may be connected in parallel at the end of the starting period.
