Abstract

1,097,044. Packaging-machines; lifting bags. HABRA-WERK WILHELM F. OTT. March 31, 1966 [April 1, 1965], No. 14216/66. Headings B8C and B8H. An apparatus for inserting bags 5 in shipping containers 27 comprises a vertically reciprocable gripper 20 which carries a group of bags from an assembly position to a position over the shipping container 27 and inserts them therein, after which the container is removed on a conveyer. The bags are fed by a conveyer (6), Fig. 2 (not shown), to plate 7 and when a row of bags is positioned on it, the plate is pivoted downwards 'to deposit the bags with bottom flaps uppermost. A slider 15 is then activated, passing through apertures 8 in the plate 7, to displace the row of bags on to a track 14. The slider 15 is returned and the plate 7 pivoted upwards to receive the next row which is in turn deposited on the track 14. When a group of bags, e.g. five rows, is in position, the carrier 20, suspended from a carriage 22, is lowered and the flaps 5a of the bags 5 are received in gaps (44), Fig. 3 (not shown), between pairs of rails (43), (43a). The rails (43), (43a) are fixed to the carrier which also includes rods (33) on which needle carrying members (35a), (35) are slidably mounted. The needles (46) pass through holes (45) in the rails (43), (43a) when the members (35) move to the left as shown and the bags 5 are secured to the carrier. The latter is raised and then moved over the shipping container 27 into which the bags are lowered and released.
