Abstract

In forming spinning openings in spinnerets or spinning plates, an electric current is passed between the spinneret or spinning plate (2) and a suitably formed electrode (3) through a gap (8, 9) filled with electrolyte, preferably fed under pressure to the gap e.g. through a drilled electrode (bore 6) or the spinning capillary (15). Thus inlet bores (10) may be formed electrolytically (Fig.1) in iron spinnerets using a copper tube electrode (3) surrounded by a P.V.C. sleeve (5), and burrs (17) formed between the inlet bores (10) and spinning capillaries (15) during machining may be removed electrolytically (Fig.5) using a copper rod electrode (19) insulated by a sleeve (18).
