The supply of fuel to a gas-fired or oil-fired burner employed for the heating of stone or other granulated material increases with the temperature of the material either at a pre-set rate or at a rate determined by the temperature of the material, a fuel supply valve being controlled by a timing device or by means of a thermo-couple, thermistor or other temperaturesensitive electrical circuit responsive to the temperature of the material being heated.
