A guard for the electrode 18 of a spot-weld machine comprises a substantially cup-shaped annular shield 22 of transparent plastics material carried on an outwardly-extending flange 28 of a tubular support member 24 which is adapted to be clamped on a cylindrical mount 20 for the electrode. As shown, a frusto-conical shield 22 is riveted or screwed to the flange 28, and the support member 24 is clamped to the mount 20 by a grub-screw 34 housed in a boss (40) (Fig. 2, not shown.) Alternatively the support member 24 has an axial saw-cut to allow it to be contracted by a tangential screw to clamp it to the mount 20. The flange 28 may comprise individual lugs for the screws or rivets. In Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the tubular support (46) is of rubber and is clamped to the mount (54) by a contractable band-clip (52). The shield (42) is gripped in an annular slot (58) in the support member flange (56).
