A honing unit comprises an elongated carrier having a cylindrical external surface adjacent one of its ends, an annular abrading surface at said end of the carrier and normal to the axis of the cylindrical surface, and a retaining cap including an apertured end wall and a depending side wall adapted to engage externally over the cylindrical external surface of the carrier. A honing unit comprises a cup-shaped carrier 1, Fig. 1, to the open end of which is secured, by bonding or an adhesive, a ring 5 of abrasive material suitable for honing the cutting edges 6 of the blades 7 of a spoked rotary cutter 8 of an electric razor 10. The ring 5 could be replaced by a ring of mounting material, e.g. a synthetic resin, on the upper surface of which is mounted an annulus of abrading material. The ring could be omitted and the honing surface formed directly on the end of the carrier 1. A cap 11 is a push-fit over the carrier and has an aperture 14 into which the body of the shaver enters. The internal diameter of the cap is very slightly greater than the outer diameter of the cutter to provide clearance, the cap acting as a guide and centring device for the cutter. In a modification, the honing ring is held on the carrier mechanically, e.g. by tongues. In another modification, the entire carrier is made of abrasive material. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the honing unit has rings 27, 28 of abrading material and caps 11c, 30, for alternative used. The unit can be used also for honing the skin guard of the razor.
