Abstract

994,071. Pencil sharpener, eraser and point protector. S. C. GOODCHILD, C. B. GOODCHILD, and L. C. GOODCHILD. March 5, 1962 [March 7, 1961], No. 8214/61. Heading B6P. A pencil sharpener comprises a substantially cylindrical body 10 with a sprung, open entry end 10a, and a recess 14 to hold an eraser E. A cutting blade 11 is set obliquely in the body and a stop 13 is provided at the inner end of the blade to prevent over-sharpening. In one embodiment, Fig. 4, the blade 11 is carried in a cylindrical frame, with the body 10 moulded around the frame in synthetic plastic material. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5, the blade 11 is carried by a cartridge 16 snap-fitted into the hollow body 10 of metal, and keyed at 17 to prevent relative rotation therewith. The sharpener may be mounted on the unsharpened end of the pencil, and may also act as a point protector. The blade may be integrally moulded with the body 10 or the cartridge 16.
