Abstract
A substantially hemispherical shield, made from a clear stretch able material, has a collar that is designed to slide tightly down the shaft of a chisel, so that the lip of the shield is parallel to the cutting blade of the chisel. When a chase is made the fragments are contained in the shield and are not projected across the area being worked in, or into the eyes of the operator. Because the shield is made from an elastic type clear material, which is washable, vision of the cutting edge of the chisel can be seen and the angle varied to perform a neat less messy chase. <IMAGE>
Description
FRAGMENT DEFLECTION COLLAR
USE OF TOOL
The idea behind this device is to minimize the mess that can be caused when chasing out the surface of a wall to conceal any wiring or pipes etc. This device would be invaluable where the property is furnished and carpeted, because being an electrician by trade am well aware that small fragments of BRICK, PLASTER, CEMENT, THERMAL, BLOCK, can often end up being ejected to the other side of a room, creating an unnecessary mess.
In the event of safety glasses not being worn the fragment deflection collar can also be a useful eye and face protector without actually being worn.
TOOL DESCRIPTION
This is a very very simple device that can be easily fitted to most standard made masonary chisels. It is a circular half football shaped tool with a collar on it that slids tightly over the shaft of the chisel.
It is made from a CLEAR stretchable material which is approx 3/16 of an inch thick, it is washable to maintain a clear view of the cutting edge of the chisel when placed in position where the chase is to be performed.
OPERATION OF THE TOOL
As previously stated the FRAGMENT DEFLECTION COLLAR slides tightly over the shaft of the chisel, so that the lip of the device is parallel to the cutting blade of the chisel to be used.
The wall is marked out for the necessary chase and when the chisel is placed in position the tip of the fragment defection collar just rests on the surface of the wall.
When the chisel is struck by the hammer, because the deflection collar is so supply it collapses to the required amount the returns to its original shape.
But instead of the brick and plaster fragments splintering across the room they are captured in the deflection collar, and are only released to the floor when the chisel is removed from the wall in order to continue the chase.
Claims (3)
1. A Fragment Deflection Collar, made from a clear stretchable material for use with masonary chisels.
Shaped like a half football with a stretchable collar to accommodate most hand chisel sizes.
2. A Fragment Deflection Collar, will minimize any mess from flying Brick, Plaster, Thermal Block, Cement etc which is caused when chasing out a wall or any surface to conceal wiring and pipes.
3. A Fragment Deflection Collar, acts as a safety device, minimizing the risk of the above mentioned (in
Claim 2) from hitting the face and eyes
