Abstract

1,096,242. Towers for hoists. BRITISH HOIST & CRANE CO. Ltd. Nov. 30, 1965 [Dec. 2, 1964], No. 48984/64. Heading B8H. A tower for supporting a lift or hoist is built up from frames consisting of rectangular uprights 2 interconnected by tubular members 3. The sections are connected to those above and below by spigots 7 and to those at the side by lugs 6. The joins between sections are staggered, by incorporating half-sized sections 1a, 1b to increase stability. The same bolts which pass through lugs 6 also pass through spigots 7. To accommodate a gate two vertically adjacent sections are replaced by two uprights 2a, Fig. 2, (not shown). This arrangement provides for a vertically sliding gate as shown in Fig. 3 (not shown). If a side-sliding gate is used the members 2a are equal in length to one section of the tower. The sections opposite the gate may comprise two uprights and detachable cross-members 15, Fig. 1, which can be removed so that the gate may be transferred easily to the opposite side of the tower.
