Abstract

1,096,185. Making hollow-ware; seaming. B. & J. ALUMINIUM MANUFACTURERS Ltd. Feb. 9, 1966 [April 26, 1965], No. 17577/65. Headings B3A and B3J. A method of forming a double seam between two parts 4, 8 of an aluminium kettle, teapot &c. comprises providing flat annular flanges 2, 9 on the parts and folding the flanges to form the seam 9, Fig. 12. The parts 4, 8 are formed by pressing operations, followed by a rolling operation to form the flange-radius (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), into a sharp angle (6) (Fig. 2, not shown), and flange-trimming operations. The double-seam is formed by rolling the cylindrical margin 10 of the top flange 9 beneath the lower flange 2 and then turning the seam against the lower part. An opening is formed for a lid. In other forms a spout and a handle are fitted, Figs. 13, 14 (not shown). A kettle or teapot may be formed with a rolled, rather than flattened, seam, Fig. 16 (not shown).
