Abstract

1,096,011. Injection moulding machines; hydraulic presses. FIELDING & PLATT Ltd. and R. MADELEY. April 6, 1965 [Jan. 8, 1964], No. 868/64. Headings B5A and B5F. An injection moulding machine has a mould (not shown) opened and closed by a crosshead 5 which is moved by low-powered hydraulic rams 6, (7), final clamping pressure being applied by a short stroke hydraulic ram 15 through a strut 9 which is releasably locked to the ram 15. The locking means comprises circumferentially interrupted teeth 13 on the strut 9 adapted to engage in grooves (14) in a bore in the ram by relative rotation of the strut 9 and ram 15. As shown, the strut 9 is rotatable by means of a telescopic shaft 27, rack and pinion gear 28 and hydraulic rams (29), Fig. 3 (not shown). Return springs 18 are provided for the ram. Adjustable backstops 22 enable moulds of different depths to be used.
