Abstract

1,095,569. Chromatography elution and analysis system. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKAD. EMIE VED. April 30, 1965 [May 4, 1964], No. 18295/65. Heading B1X. A plurality of chromatographic separations are carried out simultaneously by supplying eluent to a pump which passes the eluent to a distributor which feeds a plurality of columns cyclically. As illustrated in the Figure, eluent is passed by pump Pv to distributor Kv and thus in sequence via dosers D 1 -D4 to columns V 1 -V4. A further pump PN and distributor KN feed a reagent (e.g. ninhydrin reagent for amino-acid separations) to the eluate streams in sequence, the two distributors preferably being in phase. Three-way cocks d 1 -d4, provide for switching the eluate to drain. The tubes from the columns are of capillary dimensions and pass the eluate-reagent stream to capillary reactors KR 1 - KR4 in a common constant temperature bath. The streams then pass to photometric cells F 1 - F4 having measuring elements E 1 - E4 connected to a common recorder Z. Finally the streams are led to a distributor KF which can conduct any stream to a flow meter B while the remaining streams are discharged to drain. Each measuring cell outlet may be fitted with a flow meter. A known solution may be used in one column, and the recorder may be responsive to a light intensity ratio.
