Abstract

109,548. Nicholson, A. E. Dec. 8, 1916. Stowing rafts; raftlaunching apparatus.- Apparatus for stowing rafts on board ship comprises a chamber provided with outer and inner skins a, b, Fig. 2, and a bottom c. The rafts are carried, as shown, on a tray j which is counterbalanced by an annular weight n, Figs. 2 and 4, connected thereto by wires o running over pulleys h. A cover for the chamber has a water-tight packing and hinged securing-bolts, and is formed with a raised air-tight compartment which serves as a seat back. The counterweight n is heavier than the tray loaded with the rafts and is held raised, as shown, by a catch r. A winch q or other means is provided in the annular space m for raising the weight n, and the lowering of the weight is controlled by a small brake s.
