Abstract
15,145. Kowalski, F. W. June 28. Buoys.-A lifesaving buoy comprises an approximately egg-shaped container 1, which is connected to an outer vessel 4 by stays 5 which separate the air-tight space between the two vessels into compartments 7, 8, which may be separate or may be connected by holes in the stays. The outer vessel is arranged at its upper part to increase the stability of the buoy. The buoy is maintained vertical by a weight 3, and has at its upper end a waterproof folding jacket 15, which is secured about the body by a cord 16. The chamber 1 may be provided with a short pipe 18 to which an air-pump may be attached ; means may also be provided for pumping out water from the vessel 1. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, the outer vessel has at its lower end a conical opening 19 connected to the atmosphere by a pipe 20, in which is a cock 21, so that water may be allowed to rise in the opening to increase the stability of the apparatus.
