. Linn-BOAT.
T0 all whom t may concern I Be itknown that I, JOSEPH Koziol., a citizen of the United States, resident of vDes Moines, county of Polk, and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Life-Boats, of which the following is a specication.
This invention'relates to improvements in means for maintaining a boat principally intended for life saving purposes on the surfacey of water, irrespective of any` damage which may be done to it,
The principal object of the invention is to provide a plurality of buoyant floats having suiiicient buoyant area to'maintain the boat on the surface. Y v
, A further object is to provide means whereby the floats may be lled withcompressed air or other suitable buoyant gases.
These and other like objects are attained by the novell construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and shown A in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this specification, andV in which,
Figure 1 is ventional type of boat diagrammatically,
and indicating the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Y' Fig. 3 is a fragmental sectional view indicating the inflating means.
- In the several drawings, the numeral 10,
indicates the hull of the vessel, upon the 11, a similar bracket 12, extending from'the Y Y front or stem ofthe boat, and alike bracket Q 13 at the rear orvst-ern thereof. Engaged Vwith the brackets 11 and 12 are supports 14,
Y the same having` secured at their extremitieslloats 15 preferably of a strong inflatable ma- Y Yterial, here shown to be of spherical con- Vstruction and which are firmly braced by means hereinafter described. Engaged within the boats hull, by means of brackets 18,
are posts or masts 19 having at their extreme Y upper end a rigid band 20, below which are fixed brackets '22, connected by cables 23,
these cables being connected'wit'h a cross rail 2 4, at the stern of the vessel.
Engaged Vwith the outer ends VVofY the rigid arms 14 are other brackets V26, terminatingA Copies of this patent may 'be Vobtained. for

in eyes, to which are secured cables 28 `and l29, the latter being engaged at their center with eyes 30,` atthe side of the vessel, thus tachedv to the ship. Y Should it be desirable to increase the ATENT oFFion,"` ,i i
buoyancy ofthe floats 15, which may be ar-V rangedv for inflation, the bars may be of tubular construction, as indicatedV at 35 in Fig.
3, and engaged with a valve 36, its opposite entrance having a pipe38 yleading into the interior of the vessel and connecting with an air-compressor. contained therein,V (not shown) while thethird opening of the valve 36. has an exhaust pipe 3,9 open to the atmosphere. v
C Within thefloat 15 is varranged a piston (not shown) which extends through the projectlon 40, and engaged with a rod 41, connesting with a crank 42, of the valve stem, so that when pressure rises within the float so as. to prevent further admission of com# pressed air, but permits the same to escape through the exhaust 39.
The construction, application and purpose of the invention are believed toV be evident from the foregoing taken in connection with Y"z5, beyond a desirable point, the valve is closed Y adapted to supply an iniating medium'to said floats, valves in said .tubular connecy tions, cranks on theA stems of said Vvalves ladapted to be operated automatically when the pressure within said floats rises above a predetermined point and exhaust pipes engaged with said valves, for theV exhaust of the surplus of inflating medium, and masts on said boat supporting cables for suspending said floats therefrom.`
In testimony whereof I `have affixed my signature.
JOSEPH 'vi'rozionl live cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Washington, D. C.
