A sound-insulating wall comprises a spacedapart pair of firmly supported rigid panels 10, 11 one or each having on its inner face a covering consisting of a sheet of elastomeric material having dispersed therein heavy metal particles preferably lead powder, but alternatively iron or bronze powder in a proportion of at least 0.05 parts by volume to one volume part of the material, and a filling of fibrous or cellular material, e.g. of foamed plastics or glass- or slag-wool meat between the panels. To the outer faces of the panels 10, 11 sheets 16, 16a of foamed rubber may be bonded, which in turn are faced by skins 17, 17a of impermeable washable material. The panels 10, 11 are supported by a wooden framework of members 15.
