Abstract

1,094,243. Generators operating by electromagnetic interaction with fluids. SIEMENS SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. April 21, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 16852/65. Heading H2A. In a MHD generator, the magnet structure comprises two independent polepieces 5, 6 which are adjacent or form the opposed walls of duct 4, and has coils 10, 11 wound between the polepieces externally of the duct so that easy access is obtained to the electrodes mounted in non-magnetic walls 12 of the duct. The polepieces may be T-shaped or consist of flat plates and are wider than the duct. In operation flux passes between the polepieces across the duct and returns through an air path remote from the duct.
