Abstract

1,094,193. Colour television camera. MARCONI CO. Ltd. Jan. 25, 1965 [April 1, 1964], No. 13440/64. Heading H4F. In a colour television camera light from a subject of transmission is split into two beams by an apertured mirror 4, the light which passes through the central hole 3 being focused on to a luminance camera 2 and the light which is reflected from the annular mirror 4 being split into at least two component colours (three as shown) by dichroic mirrors 5 and 7 and focused on to colour cameras 6, 8 and 9. The mirror 4 is positioned at 45 degrees to the centre ray of the light passing through hole 3 and the area of the hole is approximately half that of the illuminated area of the annular mirror. The arrangement makes maximum use of the light available from the subject of transmission and relies on the fact that it is possible to employ a relatively low standard of definition in the colour cameras so long as a luminance image of good resolution is produced. In live televizing an iris arrangement, Fig. 2 (not shown), is used to adjust the areas of the hole 3 and annular mirror 4. Such an arrangement is described and claimed in Specification 1,094,194 and comprises a hole of adjustable diameter in an approximately planar mirror-iris and a non- reflecting iris concentric with the mirror iris and covering the mirror surface thereof by an extent determined by the adjustment of the non-reflecting iris, the two irises being gangcontrolled so that in all positions of adjustment the ratio of mirror area of the mirror-iris exposed by the non-reflecting iris, to the area of the hole is of a predetermined value, e.g. 2 to 1.
