Abstract

1,163,107. Television. SIEMENS A.G. 30 Nov., 1966 [1 Dec., 1965], No. 53718/66. Heading H4F. If, for example, as in the televising of low intensity X-ray pictures, use is made of a wide aperture lens to project the pictures on to the camera screen, the projected image will show a falling off of intensity at its periphery, i.e. vignetting, resulting in corresponding edge darkness in the reproduced picture. To overcome this, the invention proposes the integration of the television horizontal and vertical sawtooth voltages about the average valves thereof, to produce corresponding paraboli having maxima of either end thereof and the summation of the plurality of " horizontal " paraboli and the " vertical " parabola, occuring during one field to form a correcting signal which is added in synchronism to the video signal issuing from the television camera whereby the " horizontal " paraboli cause compensating brightening of each vertical edge of the reproduced picture, and the " vertical " parabola causes compensating brightness of each horizontal edge. To allow for variations of the brightness of the initial video signal, the correcting signal is amplified in proportion to the average brightness of the line being corrected. Since each corner of the thus corrected reproduced picture may be over-bright, blanking of the corrected signal is employed such that the reproduced picture is circular.
