Abstract

514,776. Television ; cathode-ray tubes. SCOPHONY, Ltd., and ROSENTHAL, A. H. April 12, 1938, No. 11198. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] Alkali-halide and like screens of the kind described in Specification 513,776 are used in a television receiver utilizing the subtractive method of colour reproduction. Incoming signals, e.g., corresponding to three primary colours, are applied to produce reversed images on the screens 7, 8, 9, as described in that Specification, the colour of each image being complementary to the corresponding primary colour. White light from a source 17 is projected successively through each screen to produce the coloured image at 18. The source 17 is imaged on lens 20 which images the screen 7 on the screen 8, while lens 21 images lens 20 on lens 22 and so on. The colour of the transparencies 7, 8 and 9 is dependent on the material and temperature of the screens. The screens must therefore be maintained at constant temperature, as by thermostat control 11. Two of the screens may be placed back-to-back in a common container and scanned from opposite sides, Fig. 2 (not shown).
