[Class 40 (iii)] A television &c. system particularly adapted for reproduction in colour or of stereoscopic effects employs at the transmitter or receiver a lenticular grating composed of a series of adjacent cylindrical lenses with their axes parallel, whereby at the transmitter a single object produces, as regards colour or duality of images, a composite signal, or, at the receiver, such a composite signal is synthetized into a single image. In the transmitter shown, the grating 7 is arranged with its plane surface in proximity to a moving film 3 and is designed to project upon the film a striated image of a light filter 10, which has zones 4, 5, 6 of the three primary colours. In conjunction with a lens 2 these elements produce upon the film 3 an image of an object 1, in which each third strip corresponds with a particular primary colour. The film is developed and fixed with the image in monochrome, and is then scanned at the transmitter, e.g. by a cathode-ray, in lines at right-angles to the direction of the strips. A replica of the film is thus reproduced at the receiving station and may be projected upon a viewing screen by an optical system which is the reverse of that employed at the transmitter. The film may be automatically maintained in registration with the lenticular grating by arranging that the strip extending along one edge of the film should co-operate with a slit attached to the grating and with a photo-cell sensitive to a particular colour so as to control electromagnetic adjusting means for the grating. When stereoscopic effects are to be obtained, the grating 7 is used in conjunction with a pair of separated lenses, Fig. 2 (not shown), so that every alternate strip upon the film 3 corresponds with the right or left eye image of an object.
