Abstract

1,093,968. Washing machines. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 20, 1966 [Feb. 4, 1965], No. 2622/66. Heading D1A. A clothes washing machine 20 comprises a unitary structure made up of an agitator 48 mounted in a spin tub 34 and driving means therefor which is mounted on an upper resilient support 56 and a lower resilient support comprising a cup-shaped member 80 biassed by spring 82 into contact with a portion of the unitary structure to give a snubbing effect. The casing 24 is divided, by a bulkhead 30, into mechanism and washer compartments. A roller drive mechanism 51 with a slipping clutch is supported on a bracket 72 suspended by a tube 54 from a resilient cup-shaped support 56 which houses spin and agitate shafts (55), (57) Fig. 4 (not shown). The lower surface of bracket 72 carries a snubber plate 74 with a smooth clean surface retreated with a chromatic which engages the grooved surface 88 of member 80. Spring 82 is held in cup 84 formed in a diagonal cross brace 86 and located by a flange 94 of a plate 92 on cross brace 86, a resilient bushing 96 and liner 98 being provided between snubber 80 and cup 84. Support 56 and spring 82 preferably each support half the weight of the tube and its contents plus the mechanism.
