Abstract
109,361. Leyfield, A. M. Dec. 19, 1916. Round holes, enlarging and trueing; rotating-tool apparatus.-In a machine for grinding the internal surfaces of circular holes in glass or other material, the work 11, Fig. 2, such as the tubular part of a hypodermic or surgical syringe is clamped in a frame 10 mounted in gimbals in a frame 14, 15 reciprocated in guides 19 by an adjustable crank 22. The operating-tool 9 is a cylindrical core A, Fig. 3, with a thread B, C secured to or formed upon it. Abrading-material and water are supplied to the tool which is rotated by a shaft 3 through a universal joint 8. The shaft 3 is driven by a belt and pulley 6, whilst a belt 18 passing round a pulley 25 on the shaft drives the crank 22. A range of tools is provided to grind different sizes of tubes.
