Abstract

1,093,505. Forced flow steam generators. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. March 11, 1966 [March 11, 1965], No. 10712/66. Heading F4A. Feed water, after passing through a preheater 1, and heat exchange surfaces 2 forming part of the lining of the hopper of a combustion chamber, enters the upper part 4 of the radiant evaporative surface of a forced flow boiler through a pipe 5. It is then discharged through pipe 6 into a header box 7 to pass through a second lower part 3 of the radiant evaporative surface. Part of the feed water under control of regulating valve 11 may by-pass the upper part 4 and flow directly to the lower part 3 through by-pass line 8. The parts 3 and 4 are formed from vertical loops made up by upright tube lengths interconnected by return bends. This arrangement minimizes temperature differences between adjacent tubes, even at low loads, enabling the boiler walls to be of welded tube construction.
