Abstract
1,151,224. Steam and hot water boilers; flue baffles. DAVEY, PAXMAN & CO. Ltd. 13 July, 1966 [21 July, 1965], No. 31008/65. Headings F4A and F4B. A fuel fired or waste heat steam or hot water return tube boiler 1 includes a flue 2 connected to a wet back chamber 3 from which a first pass of return tubes 4 extends to a smoke box 5. A second pass of return tubes 6, 7, 8 extends rearwardly from the smoke box 5 to a chimney 9. The tubes 6 are fitted with full length retarders, the tubes 7 with half-length retarders, and the tubes 8 are left unretarded. Water is supplied to the base of the boiler through one or more distributer pipes 10 having downward distribution slots 13 at their ends, or arranged at intervals along their length. Due to the preponderance of retarders in the uppermost return tubes 6, and the fact that the cold water supply is fed into the bottom of the boiler, the rate of gas flow varies from a minimum through the tubes 6 in the hottest water to a maximum through the tubes 8 in the coldest water. Tubes fitted with flow restricting orifices or nozzles may be used in place of the retarde rs of differing lengths.
