Abstract

Compounds of formula R5CONHCR3R4CONHR6 are prepared by saponification, in a solvent with a strong base at - 40 DEG to + 50 DEG C., of compounds of formula <FORM:1093378/C2/1> these compounds having been made by simultaneous reaction in a solvent at - 70 DEG to + 80 DEG C., of R1CH(NH2)CHR2X, R3COR4, R5CO2H and R6NC. In these formulae, R1 and R2 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, CO2 alkyl or CO2 aralkyl; X is CN, CO2 alkyl or CO2 aryl, and may form a ring with R1 or R2; R3 is H or C1- 15 hydrocarbyl (possibly Cl, CO, SH, S alkyl, CO2 alkyl, OH or N3 substituted, or may contain O, S or N in a heterocyclic system); R4 is H or C1- 4 alkyl, R5 is H, C1- 20 hydrocarbyl (possibly halogen, N3, NO2, CO2 alkyl or protected amino substituted) or N-heterocyclyl; and R6 is alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl (possibly substituted).
