Abstract

1,092,640. Ventilators. WINGARD Ltd. Oct. 20, 1965 [July 25, 1964], No. 30191/64. Heading F4V. A ventilator for a vehicle comprises a cover 19 and a one-piece base member 10 which is moulded in plastics or die-cast in metal and has longitudinally spaced openings 11 and 12. As shown, the base member includes apertured front and rear walls 16, 17 and a partition 13 separating the openings so that when the ventilator is mounted on a vehicle roof air entering through wall 16 is supplied to the vehicle interior through opening 11 and air is extracted from the vehicle through opening 12 and wall 17. The openings 11, 12 are surrounded by cylindrical baffles 14, 15 each of which has a semi-cylindrical cutout in the side remote from the corresponding apertured wall. The base member may also be formed with a semi-cylindrical baffle (Fig. 4, not shown) which deflects air from opening 11 rearwardly into the vehicle. In a modification (Figs. 9 to 13, not shown) the partition and the front and rear apertured walls are formed on the cover which is also provided with flanges arranged to co-operate with the baffles surrounding the openings in the base member. Valve seats (Figs. 14 and 15, not shown) are provided in openings 11, 12 just below the cut-out portions of baffles 14, 15 and an axially movable closed ended cylindrical valve member is arranged in each opening. The cylinder may be moved by a handle (Fig. 14) and provided with a resilient projection, which may engage in any of a number of apertures in a fixed sleeve, or it may be screwed relative to the sleeve by a knob (Fig. 15).
