1,092,374. Laminates. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 29, 1964 [Nov. 8, 1963], No. 44080/63. Heading B5N. A method of making a fabric comprises segmentally bonding one layer of fibres to a fibrous base layer and thereafter cutting the first layer of fibres between segmental bonds. The terms " fibrous layer " and " layer of fibres " are defined as including any assembly of fibres in the form of a layer, e.g. a fibrous web, a plurality of webs laid one on another optionally in a crosslaid manner and a warp of fibres. When several webs are present in a layer, an air-laid or woven scrim fabric may be present. The segmental bonding may be effected by applying to a layer or layers a natural or synthetic resin by an engraved printing roller, or, if at least one layer contains thermoplastic fibres, by heat and pressure with an engraved roller or by dielectric welding using patterned electrodes. Specified fibres are those based on or containing polyesteramides, polysulphonamides, polyesters, polyamides and polyurethanes. Hetero filaments, e.g. those in which the two components are present either in a side-to-side relationship or with the core of one component sheathed by the other component may be used.
