1,092,243. Pipe joints; pipes. REED PAPER GROUP Ltd. June 30, 1966 [July 15 1965], No. 30087/65. Headings F2G and F2P A socket at the end of a pipe of moulded plastics material, such as P.V.C., for receiving a spigot of an adjacent pipe length comprising two moulded parts, one being a main pipe length 1 and the other being an extension piece 2 which is a snap-fit on one end of the main pipe length, is provided with a sealing ring 11 located in groove formed partly by said main pipe length and partly by said extension piece which together nip the sealing ring in position. The arrangement particularly permits a pipe length to be formed with a smaller bend radius than normally produced by moulding. The main pipe length end is provided with a flange 3 defining a tapered periphery 5 and a rearfacing shoulder 4. The extension piece is a progressively tight sliding fit over the flange until an internal lip 7 on the extension piece snaps over the rear-facing shoulder. In this position, the rubber " D " section sealing ring 11, initially positioned in the extension piece, is gripped between the wall 9 of the extension piece and the extreme end face of the main pipe length. An internal shoulder 8 on the extension piece limits the sliding movement on the main pipe length and a tapered internal flange 6 on the main pipe length provides an abutment for an inserted spigot end of an adjacent pipe length. Two external flanges 12 (one only being shown) form locating means for a strap fastening enabling the pipe to be secured to a support.
