Abstract

1,092,234. Casting processes; continuous casting. TESLA, NARODNI PODNIK. Feb. 11, 1966 [March 3, 1965], No. 6101/66. Heading B3F. Al-Ni-Co alloy members for making permanent magnets are made by melting an electrode of the alloy in a mould by the electroslag process (using a slag of 40-100% CaF 2 , 0-50% Al 2 O 3 , 0-50% CaO, 0-10% SiO 2 , 0-5% MgO, 0-5% TiO 2 and a current density in the electrode of 0À3-3À5 amp/mm.<SP>2</SP>) to produce columnar crystals in the axial direction of the mould. A water-cooled, copper, iron or aluminium mould or a refractory mould may be used and it may have a movable, e.g. iron, bottom which is lowered for a continuous casting, the casting being treated by magnetization at an increased temperature as it leaves the mould.
