A low-temperature steam heating system, e.g. for a drying chamber A heated by steam pipes has injector means 13 supplied with superheated steam through a valve 14 to withdraw used steam and condensate from the lower ends of the pipes 3 through pipe 19 and force the mixture through a pipe 15 to a condensate collector 17 from which the saturated steam passes by a pipe 18 back to the upper ends of the steam pipes 3. As shown, the drying chamber is divided by a partition 2 and a strip of material 4 coated in a bath B is led through aperture 7 over pulley 8 and through outlet aperture 9 for drying the coating, evaporated solvent being extracted through an outlet 11 by air supplied at 12. The steam circulating piping is duplicated at opposite sides of the drying chamber. Condensate separated at 17 flows by pipes 20, 21 to a condensate collector 23, and valves 26 allow condensate in the heating pipes 3 to pass directly to the collector 23. Steam may be admitted to the condensate collectors 17 through pipes 33, 30 and valves 31 to regulate the temperature, and pipes 18 1 , 19 1 supply steam for heating the coating bath B. Air and non- condensible gases may be purged from the system by closing valves 16, 22 and opening valve 24.
