Abstract

1,270,444. Superheating steam. JOHN GLADSTONE & CO. (ENG.) Ltd. 21 May, 1970 [21 May, 1969], No. 25892/69. Heading F4A. In a heat exchanger forming part of a textile web treatment apparatus steam from supply pipe 2 is fed at full pressure through valve 6 into jacket 4 to heat steam in passageways 5 which is supplied from the same source 2 but at a lower temperature having passed through reducing valve 3. The heated steam passes from passageways 5 through space 9 where it is further heated by electric radiant heaters 10. The steam is then admitted into perforated pipe 35 via valve 12 and passes through textile package 32 into autoclave 1. Heat exchange passageways 5 and the autoclave 1 are provided with condensate outlets connected via valves 7 and 30, respectively. Steam supplied via valve 31 to perforated pipe 33 may be passed through the system in reverse by first closing off the steam supply at valve 3 and connecting vacuum pump 18 to the system via valve 17. In this case the electric heaters are switched off, the steam supply to space 5 closed off at valve 6, and cold water passed through space 5 by opening inlet and outlet valves 15, 16 in order to condense the steam flowing through. A control unit 19 receiving signals from temperature and pressure sensors 14, 15 may be used to control the valves and obtain the desired humidity/temperature cycle.
