Abstract

1,090,957. Container closures; stackable containers. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. Sept. 20, 1966 [Oct. 16, 1965], No. 41846/66. Headings B8D and B8T. A container closure comprises a membrane 24 extending over the open end of a container having a grooved edge reinforced by a metal ring 22, a clamping ring 25 securing the membrane in position As shown, a sealing gasket 26 is provided inside the open container end, and a reinforcing disc 28 is attached to the membrane 28. A disc 27 may be provided on top of the membrane 24, to facilitate stacking of one container upon another. In one modification, Fig. 1 (not shown), the reinforcing disc 28 on the inner side of the membrane 24 is omitted. In another modification, an additional disc (39), Fig. 3 (not shown), of larger diameter, is provided between the reinforcing disc (38) and the membrane (34), its outer edge engaging the top surface of the metal ring (32). The membrane 24 is of fabric made from artificial or natural fibres and is coated on one side with a liquid-proof layer.
