Abstract
1,089,944. Stretching filaments. ASAMEI KASEI KOGYO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Sept. 9, 1965 [Sept. 9, 1964], No. 38551/65. Heading B5B. Apparatus for stretching synthetic fibres to obtain a yarn having a periodically varied fibre denier comprises a feed-roll 3, a snubbing pin 4, a stretching roll 5 an axially extending segment of the surface of which has an aventurine finish, the remaining, narrower, segment of the surface being mirror finished, and a separator roll 6, the whole surface of which has an aventurine finish. (See Fig. 1). In the alternative apparatus of Fig. 2, two separator rolls 6 are used. The period of denier unevenness of the fibre may be changed by changing the diameter of the stretching roll 5, and the amplitude of denier unevenness of the fibre may be increased (a) by decreasing the number of wraps around the combination of the stretching roll and separator roll as in Fig. 1, or (b) by decreasing the length of surface of the stretching roll in contact with the running yarn by employing a combination of the stretching roll and two separate rolls as in Fig. 2, or (c) by increasing the proportion of the aventurine portion of the surface of the stretching roll, and thus also increasing the proportion of the less stretched portions of the fibre. In a modified apparatus, not shown, one or both of the separator rolls 6 is replaced by a fixed snubbing pin having an aventurine surface. Examples describe the stretching of polycaprolactam filaments. The method of the invention may be used for polyamides, polyesters, polyolefins or polyacrylonitrile.
