Abstract
1,089,795. Transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 13, 1964 [May 29, 1963], No. 21503/63. Heading H1T. In a tap changing arrangement controlled semi-conducting means such as a back-to-back pair of silicon controlled rectifiers E1 or E2 (Fig. 1) is connected in parallel with a switch 1 or 2 connectible to the tappings, the interrupter being controlled to produce an open circuit after the switch has opened. A single interrupter may be used (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) or there may be three interrupters (Fig. 5, not shown). Alternatively two interrupters C and D (Fig. 4) may be provided and connected to different tapping selectors Tc1, Tc2 in branches y and x of which branch y is used to carry the load current only during changing to a new tap, the load current being carried by branch x, when Tc1 reaches the new tap, first through interrupter D, which has been triggered to conduct and then through switch 1. The interrupter may be formed of two or more interrupter units in series, parallel or series/parallel or the siliconcontrolled rectifiers may be connected across a bridge rectifier.
