Abstract

993,656. Transformers. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. March 10, 1964 [March 13, 1963], No. 10138/64. Heading H1T. In a tap-changing system each tapping 11, 12, 13 is connectible by a pair of off-load selector switches 11a, 11b, 12a, 12b, 13a, 13b to either of two circuits including the rectifier bridge 4, one circuit including a pair of oppositely poled continuously controlled rectifiers 5a, 5b while the other includes a pair of rectifiers 6a, 6b which can change only from blocked to conducting and vice versa. A control device 7 allows the off-load selectors to operate only when the rectifiers in the circuit to which the selector to be operated is connected, is blocked. In changing from one tap to another the selector connecting the new tap to rectifiers 5a, 5b is first closed and the control of these rectifiers is then varied to increase the voltage applied through them from the new tap to the full voltage of that tap. The other selector for that tap can then be closed and rectifiers 6a, 6b unblocked.
