Abstract
1,089,623. Ammunition storing and transporting. J. H. LERBS, [trading as JOH. HINRICH LERBS]. Sept. 3, 1965, No. 37832/65. Heading F3A. A container for storing and transporting a torpedo warhead comprises a base part 1 and upper part 7 secured to the part 1 by captive bolts 16. The part I. is a light-metal casting consisting of a plate 2, with radial reinforcements and an annular collar 6 to support the warhead, and a cylindrical wall 3 shaped internally to centre the warhead. The upper part 7 consists of a cylindrical sheet-metal wall 8 and a dome 9 also stamped from sheet-metal and welded to wall 8. A flange 14 welded to the bottom of wall 8 is fitted with a sealing strip 15. The top of the dome 9 is flattened and provided with an opening to secure lifting means to the warhead. This opening is closed by a bolt 11 when not in use. Diametrically opposed projections 12 are provided on the wall 8 for the attachment of lifting means. Handles 13 are used for swinging the warhead to a horizontal position, and offset from the projections 8, after the bolts 16 have been released and the warhead together with the part 7 lifted off the part 1. The warhead can then be connected to the torpedo body and the part 7 be subsequently removed.
