A container for storing and shipping evaporable liquids, such as lacquers, paints and fuels, comprises an upright tank formed by tubular section 8 and upper and lower end sections 18, 14, respectively having closed access and drainage openings 28, 26, a support structure 10 including a lower skirt 32 for spacing the drainage opening above a support surface 12 and transverse hollow members 44, 46 adapted for engagement by a fork-lift truck, and an upper skirt 16, provided with a stiffening ring 54 secured to its free end and with a pair of diametrically opposed lifting or hoisting holes 50 for raising the container. A second stiffening ring 36 is bolted to the free end of the lower skirt and the members 44, 46 are welded thereto. The tank and skirts are of aluminium and the stiffening rings and box-shaped members are of steel. Drainage openings 58 are additionally provided in the upper skirt and openings 40, 42 are provided in the lower skirt to facilitate connection of a drain hose to the drainage opening 26. A pressure relief valve 88 is provided in the upper tank end section. Alternatively, the closure 30 of the access opening may be constructed to provide relief of pressure build-up in the tank. For emergencies, a high capacity pressure relief valve 90 is provided. A fluid-level gauge 74 comprises a disc 82 screwed on a threaded rod 76 and locked by a wire. A crossbar 60, Fig. 1 (not shown), straddles the access opening and is adapted to mount an agitater, mixer or aerator.
