1,089,474. Thermal switches. PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN N.V. Oct. 15, 1965 [Oct. 20, 1964], No. 43802/65. Heading H2B. A bimetallic switch, particularly for use in an electric smoothing iron, in which a bimetal 8 and a support 9 for a set of contact springs (10) actuated by the bimetal 8 are both fastened on a common supporting surface (7) on an electrically heated plate 1, for example the sole of an iron, has the support 9 and the bimetal 8 located approximately at the same level but extending in different directions from the supporting surface (7), the springs (10) of the set of springs extending from their fastening point 13 on their support 9 back to the actuating point 21 at the end of the bimetal 8, so that geometrically they form one side of a triangle located between said level and that of the electrically heated plate, the corners of which are formed by the fastening point of the sup. porting surface (7), the fastening point 13 of the set of springs (10) and the actuating point 21 of the bimetal 8.
