Abstract

1,089,381. Mineral-mining conveyers. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. May 4, 1965 [May 5, 1964], No. 18671/64. Heading B8A. [Also in Division E1] A machine for longwall mining comprises an endless chain conveyer with cutting blades 15 and loading flights 14 running along a lower trough (16) connected to supports comprising a series of telescopic posts each extending between a floor bar and a roof bar slidably supported by flanking frames. An upper run of the conveyer is guided along an inverted upper trough (17) also connected to the supports vertically above the lower trough. Each flanking frame consists of roof and floor members separated by hydraulic props (34) and is rigidly connected to the next frame on the other side of the trough support, the two frames being able to " walk " under the action of hydraulic pistons and cylinders towards the coal face and advance the conveyer. The conveyer is curved through more than 90 degrees and is supported on the inside of the curve by an endless roller chain (26) contained in guide bars 31 on the troughs, rollers on the chain engaging the ends of scraper bars 12 on the conveyer chain. A canopy (43) is hinged to and advanced with the machine to provide a protected gallery.
